Trent

BFW carries tales of woe from the tidal trent, dead barbel floating down river, barbel retained in nets in this warm low river, litter everywhere and anglers pitching up on other folks knees almost when half the river is devoid of fisher folk.

The easy fishing always attracts the morons and lets be honest the Trent IS the easiest barbel fishing in the country at the moment. The internet must carry some of the responsibility for the situation, it spread the word that attracted the fools, though there have always been some. Be better when winter comes and they are tucked up cozy like.

As it happens I fished the Trent yesterday for the first time this season, no thoughts of barbel for me though, I trotted for the silver fish and had a nice time, mainly because I wont fish in the places that attract morons these days. I did have a very happy few years on Collingham before this all started and I am glad of that. Believe it or not there was a time when you could turn up and almost always find peg1A empty on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, if you fancied it, now there’s a queue for it sometimes. …… Peg 34 was my particular favorite, not a pellet in sight, big lumps of curried meat did the job and maybe still would……..Seems such a long time ago now.

COME ON ESPANA.

You know Tony, I read things like this and it makes my blood boil, so called anglers fish chasing and hammering spots they know contain big fish rather than spending time seeking out their quarry….are we supposed to say well done when they catch, not me I’m afraid I am fed up and toally disallusioned with the barbel scene and get my enjoyment now from running a float through again like I did many years ago. Anyway at least we have the good times to remember before all the carpies found a new use for their 2.75 rods.
Off to watch the footy now, I’d give the cat a good kicking but I haven’t got one.

I know Dave, we saw the best of it though, good times they were.

Why would anyone want to queue for a swim ? Why would anyone want to fish “Cheek by Jowl” with other anglers. The phrase “Whole Sale Fishmongering” comes to mind.

The Trent ain’t that easy though mate.We have to remember the recent trip of the greatest double act since “Cannon and Ball”.Biggun and Oz who hardly troubled a Tommy Ruffe in anger.;-)

Tis true all of it. I hate fishing close to other anglers, I like to practice my ineptitude in private thanks very much.

I did a lot of float fishing at one time and I rather fancy having a few hours this coming weekend, switching t’ barbel as darkness falls. I am definitely not so single species minded these days. I haven’t been on BFW for a bit I suppose that I should have a look, mind you maybe it will make my blood boil too.

I was reading through on BFW and also another Blog about people queing up to fish certain Trent swims. Piling bait in and fishing alongside each other whilst other around got drunk and burnt furniture and left litter…………………………………………………………..

Why would anyone want to live through that Shite just to catch a few fish is beyond me.

Best bet for someone to take it over and syndicate it away from the idiots.

Had an interesting read that a certain someones teaching days on the upper Wye was a disaster. Only a couple turning up, the other 2 booked not bothering to go and rather staying at home to watch the Footie. !! Very few fish caught.

Just glad his bestest mate came to see me to enable him to catch new pb chub etc. I think thats probably the reason for the constant angst.

    Keep the faith all.

Reading through the Tidal posts it seems to me, though I could be wrong….that they don’t like people fishing opposite them, am I wrong?? because to be honest if I turned up say to fish my favourite bush swim down the edge and there was someone opposite it would be tough titty and anyway isn’t casting over halfway classed as poaching

  8. Tony says:

No point in having a 2.5 test if you cant cast your 6oz to t’other bank is there Dave, everyone knows the further you cast the more you catch, dont they?

There may be a hint of sarcasm in the above words.

  9. Conrad says:

Fair point that Tony, but you need at least 2.75lb TC and 9oz feeders. Anything less is just ill equipped don’t cha know? Having tried said techniques I’d rather stay at home.
